Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about QuickHW (Presto AI).

What is QuickHW / Presto AI?

QuickHW (also called Presto AI) is a macOS app that uses AI to help you solve homework problems. It watches your screen, detects questions from any source — PDFs, websites, textbook photos — and gives you step-by-step solutions and explanations instantly.

How does QuickHW work?

Once you open the app, it quietly runs in your menu bar. When you're working on an assignment, it reads the problem on your screen using AI vision and generates a detailed, step-by-step answer. You don't need to copy-paste or upload anything — it just works.

Is QuickHW free?

QuickHW offers a free trial so you can try it out before committing. After that, there's a paid subscription to keep using it. Plans are affordable and built for students — not enterprise pricing.

What subjects does QuickHW support?

It works with pretty much any subject you'd encounter in college: math (calculus, linear algebra, stats), science (physics, chemistry, biology), computer science, economics, accounting, and more. If a question can be displayed on your screen, QuickHW can help.

Is using AI for homework cheating?

That depends on how you use it. QuickHW is designed as a study tool — it shows you step-by-step solutions so you actually learn the material. Think of it like a really smart tutor available 24/7. We encourage using it to understand concepts, not just copy answers.

How is QuickHW different from ChatGPT or Chegg?

Unlike ChatGPT, you don't need to type or copy-paste anything — QuickHW reads your screen automatically. Unlike Chegg, answers are generated in real-time by AI so they're not limited to a question bank. It's faster, works on any problem, and lives right on your Mac.

Does QuickHW work on Windows?

No, QuickHW is currently Mac-only. It's a native macOS app built specifically for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. We don't have a Windows or Linux version at this time, but it's something we're considering for the future.

What macOS version do I need for QuickHW?

You need macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. The app runs on both Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and Intel Macs. If your Mac can run Sonoma, you're good to go.

How do I install QuickHW?

Just download the DMG from our site, open it, and drag Presto AI into your Applications folder. Launch it, grant screen recording permission when prompted, and you're all set. The whole process takes under a minute.

Can professors detect QuickHW?

QuickHW runs locally on your Mac as a regular app. It doesn't inject anything into your browser or modify web pages. Lockdown browsers can restrict screen recording, but under normal circumstances the app is not detectable by course platforms.

Does QuickHW work with online assignments?

Yes. It works with any online platform — Canvas, Blackboard, MyMathLab, WebAssign, Cengage, McGraw-Hill Connect, you name it. As long as the question is visible on your screen, QuickHW can read and solve it.

Does QuickHW work with PDFs and textbooks?

Absolutely. Open a PDF in Preview or any reader, and QuickHW will detect the problems on screen. It also works if you have a photo of a textbook page open — anything visible on your display is fair game.

How accurate is QuickHW?

QuickHW uses state-of-the-art AI models and is highly accurate for most college-level coursework. That said, no AI is perfect 100% of the time — we always recommend double-checking critical answers. For standard homework problems, accuracy is very high.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes, you can cancel anytime — no contracts, no hassle. Just go to your account settings inside the app or email [email protected]. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period.

Is my data private?

Yes. Screen data is processed in real-time and never stored on our servers. We don't sell your data, we don't track what assignments you're working on, and we don't share anything with your school. Your privacy is a priority.

Does QuickHW work during proctored exams?

Most proctoring software (like Respondus LockDown Browser) restricts screen recording and other apps from running. QuickHW is designed as a study and homework tool, not an exam tool. We don't recommend or support using it during proctored exams.
